"When we work together on my targets, I feel great - I have learnt how to do something successfully."
Dear Parents, Carers and the wider community,
At The Farnley Academy, we believe that all young people, regardless of ability or need, can prosper in excellent schools. We refuse to place limitations on any student's performance and, as a consequence, students become increasingly ambitious and self-propelled as learners. We are extremely proud of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision we offer students. As SENDCo, I coordinate the provision for students with SEND at the Academy. I am surrounded by a fantastic team of professionals who work hard to ensure that all students make outstanding progress. This team includes 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistants, who coordinate intervention programmes for students who need an extra boost.
Well-established links and close co-operation with our partner-primary schools ensures that appropriate provision is in place when students start at The Farnley Academy. I ask that parents and carers provide relevant information about their child's special educational needs and, if they wish, meet myself to discuss any issues further.
The hub of our SEND provision is the Learning Support Unit. It is here that students attend individual and small group programmes which focus on the essentials of literacy, numeracy and social skills. Students are also able to meet in the LSU during break and lunchtime under the close supervision of the SEN team.

Thank you for your continuing support,
Mr Joshua I Hawkhead, SENDCo.
