The Farnley Academy provides all students with the opportunity to take part in a whole school House System by being automatically allocated to one of the four Houses: Asquith, Bronte, Moore or Tomlinson. The system is overseen by our House Co-ordinator, Mr Revell, whose job it is to ensure that students and professionals get involved in the variety of competitions and events throughout the year as well as the celebration of outstanding commitment to Academy life and extra-curricular successes. Each House is led by a member of the Senior Leadership Team who leads the charge for the House Cup.
Asquith- Miss Lark: Herbert Asquith was a former British Prime Minister born and raised in Morley, Leeds.
Bronte- Miss Rennard: The Bronte sisters were a well-known nineteenth-century literary family associated with the village of Haworth in West Yorkshire.
Moore- Miss Bradford: Henry Moore was a British sculptor and artist, born and raised in Castleford.
Tomlinson- Miss Brand: Jane Tomlinson was an amateur English athlete from Rothwell who raised £1.85 million for charity by completing a series of athletic challenges, despite suffering from terminal cancer.
Who is who?
The main source of house points are our house point reward cards that staff award pupils who have gone above and beyond in their studies, produced stand out pieces of homework, contributed to the wider life of the Academy, carried out acts of random kindness both in and out of the Academy, completed charity fundraising or have achieved successes in their commitments outside of school. These reward cards feed into our loud and exciting 'House Appreciation Assemblies' and these allow the house to showcase and celebrate the most successful pupils.
Throughout the academic year students are encouraged to participate in House competitions which extend their learning in a range of curriculum areas. They are designed so that students develop a sense of community cohesion and responsibility within their Houses, as they work with students across all year groups.
Some of our competitions during the 2015/16 academic year included:
- Book donation challenge- over one thousand books were generously donated!
- World Book Day treasure hunts
- WAC/MAC/FLAC challenges
- European Day of Languages flag hunt
- We Will Rock You quiz
- The Farnley Academy Christmas Bake Off
- Coding competition

- Y7 singing competition that leads to a performance at the summer and Christmas concerts
Our crowning event is the Sports Championships held at the end of the academic year.
