Healthy Eating

Mr-Jeremy-English Head-Chef TFA

The Farnley Academy has invested heavily in creating a first class dining experience for young people over the course of the last three years. With the assistance of our Healthy Schools lead, Mrs R Heath, we have made great strides in transforming the quality and range of food available to young people so that the academy is now a Healthy Schools Champion.

Food service takes place in both the Academy's Restaurant and the mezzanine dining area known as 'TFA Café'. At break time, students can choose from a range of breakfast options including fruit, wholemeal toast, cereal, yoghurt and porridge. At lunchtimes there are several different options available including a hot meal, fast food, salad, Panini and sandwiches. Visitors to the Academy often comment on the high standard of food on offer and have even been seen taking photographs of the main hotplate!

Students are encouraged to try something new each day and to think carefully about the food choices they are making. Nutritional statements for each of our dishes are available so that students can make informed decisions about what they are eating. The team are more than happy to cater for the dietary requirements of individual students and parents are asked to contact Student Services in the first instance, if this is the case.

Mr Jeremy English joined The Farnley Academy as Head Chef in October 2015. His mission is to further enhance the Academy's reputation for high quality catering and professional service. Mr English meets regularly with the Student Executive for feedback and has already judged a competition in which students from Year 8 pitched their ideas for a new ethical and healthy option to the TFA Restaurant ! Having owned his own very successful restaurant, Mr English understands the importance of quality and variety when devising menus. He is creative, professional and passionate about educating the next generation about food!

The Farnley Academy operates a cashless dining experience with students using their finger images to pay for food at the tills. Students can top up their accounts at revaluing stations in school or give their money directly to a member of our finance team. Parents and carers are also able to use Parent Pay to recharge their children's accounts online.

To do so Click Here to visit the ParentPay website.

Parents and carers are more than welcome to contact the Academy if they wish to see a summary of what their child is eating at school. Please contact Mrs Clegg, Student Services, if you are interested in using this service.
